Getting to Cap-Ferret

Villa La Giovanna is located at 14 allée des Tourterelles, 33970 Lège-Cap-Ferret, on the Cap-Ferret peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean and the Arcachon Basin, in the Gironde department of south-west France. Here are the main ways to reach the villa. Travel times are approximate and vary greatly with season and traffic: always check timetables before you leave.

By car

A car is the most practical option when travelling with luggage and children. From Bordeaux, you reach the peninsula via the north of the Basin through Lège, then drive down the main road that runs the length of the peninsula. Allow a little over an hour outside peak times.

In summer, especially on Saturdays in July and August, the access road to the peninsula can be very busy: aim to arrive early in the morning or in the evening. The villa has private parking, so there is no need to look for a space.

By train

The nearest mainline station is Bordeaux Saint-Jean. From Bordeaux, regional TER trains run to Arcachon. From Arcachon, you have two options:

• The boat: passenger ferries cross the Basin between Arcachon and the Cap-Ferret jetty (more frequent in season, reduced off-season). A lovely crossing that sets the holiday mood straight away.
• A rental car or taxi, driving around the Basin.

Regional coach lines also serve the peninsula from Bordeaux: check the Nouvelle-Aquitaine regional network for timetables.

By plane

The nearest airport is Bordeaux-Mérignac, served by many domestic and European flights. From the airport, renting a car is the easiest way to reach the peninsula, usually in a little over an hour outside rush hours.

Getting around

Once you arrive, the bike is the best way to enjoy the peninsula: the ocean beaches are about 5 minutes by bike from the villa, and cycle paths link the villages, oyster huts and restaurants. Bike rental shops can be found on the peninsula. For ideas, see Things to do in Cap-Ferret.
